Part of life is death, and unfortunately in our lifetime we will all be faced with the death of a loved one. Funeral poems do not need to be sad or tearful, as long as they reflect the character of the person you have lost.
Going through some of the funeral poems with friends and family members really helps, some of the poems may make you laugh because they are such the complete opposite of the person you've just lost that you have a good laugh about it. The best services mix memories, comfort and encouragement. A eulogy is designed to memorialize and celebrate the good things in the person's life.
Ask other family members and friends to share their memories, anecdotes and stories of how that person touched their lives. Using poetry to help with grief, to express love or pain and to memorialize a friend or family member is very powerful and will be appreciated by others who have experienced a loss. This is a celebration of your loved ones life, you shouldn't feel that it is necessary to find poems which are too morbid, if you want something up beat and cheerful then do it.
As hard as it may seem right now, it gets better. Above all, remember to breathe.
